User guide: Uploading a portfolio

Summary

Portfolio creation via the "Upload new portfolio" feature

About

This feature enables users to upload their portfolios. When uploading portfolios, users can either (1) upload a single dates worth of data or (2) upload data across a range of dates. Under option 1, users will only be able to rebalance the portfolio, and see statistics over a single date. Under option 2, users will be able to conduct full backtests, and see statistics over a the full history. Under option 2, users will be further able to provide their own NAV series, if required for their own reporting purposes.

Sequence of steps

  1. Users must first name their portfolios e.g. "My test portfolio"
  2. Users must provide a description for their portfolio e.g. "This portfolio is used for testing"
  3. Users must provide a currency for their portfolio e.g. "USD, EUR or GBP"
  4. Users must upload their holdings data:
    1. The file can either be a CSV file or an Excel file.
    2. The file must contain the following columns: Date, ISIN and Weight.
    3. The date must be in the ISO 8601 format, that is YYYY-MM-DD format.
    4. The file can have holdings over multiple dates.
    5. The upload file is limited to 256MB
  5. Users can also toggle the following settings:
    1. "Force normalise to 100%" (which is on by default). If you submit weights that add up to more or less than 100% they will be renormalized to 100%. This is particular relevant for balanced funds which may have large allocations of fixed income instruments.
    2. "Ignore unmapped identifiers" (which is on by default). If we are unable to find any of the identifiers submitted they will be ignored. For example if the uploaded portfolio contains a large number of identifiers relating to fixed income instruments like bonds, they will be ignored. You will be notified which identifiers were ignored when you submit your data.
    3. "Reconcile multiple share classes" (which is on by default). If a given identifier cannot be mapped and multiple share classes exist for the given issuer, this will map to the primary line.
    4. "Overwrite dates if they already exist" (which is on by default). When switched ON: submitted dates that already exist will overwrite the existing dates. When switched OFF: submitted dates that already exist will be ignored.
  6. Upon upload the user is taken to a new screen which gives users the ability to: 1. Delete the strategy. For example when a user wishes to start-again. 1. Create an AI overlay. The AI overlay uses the uploaded holdings, and adds a default standard overlay. 1. Rebalance. The rebalance can be used to apply a standard AI overlay, a bespoke overlay. It acts on the most recent holdings date. 1. Upload new holdings. This enables more up-to-date holdings to be added to the portfolio. 1. Upload NAV series. This enables an NAV series to be upload for users own reporting purposes. For example if users which to report NAV of an existing fund but wish to use the reporting capabilities of Portfolio Dragon that are based on holdings.
